Support Israel and Send a Birthday Wish

The European Center for Jewish Students invites you to participate in a virtual birthday card project for Israel, aimed at attracting 60,000 young Jews from all over the world to send Israel a birthday wish, as a sign of solidarity for the country’s 60th anniversary year.

The virtual birthday card is the website itself, and those who sign the card will choose a message in their native language and support Israel through an $18 gift to an area of their choice - from helping new immigrants, to supporting Israeli youth at risk, to assisting Sderot residents. The site also features a section with trivia about Israel. The project will last throughout Israel’s 60th year (through April 2009) and a physical card, with all the names and messages, will be displayed in Jerusalem.

Please sign the card at www.happybirthdayisrael.org and help spread the word to all of your friends.

ECJS wishes you and your loved ones a Happy Shavuot

June 8 in the evening to June 10.

Shavuot marks the anniversary of the day the Jewish people received the Torah at Mount Sinai. The name Shavuot means weeks. This refers to the seven week counting period between Pesach and Shavuot. These seven weeks are a time of introspection and self-improvement - a time of preparation for receiving the Torah. The main mitzvah of the holiday of Shavuot is listening to the 10 commandments which are read in the synagogue on the first day of Shavuot.

If you need help finding a synagogue near you or wish to join in a Shavuot celebration, please contact s.ives@ecjs.org and we will be happy to help you.
